Core functions: storefront, content and marketing

F18–F22 — the site design, content management, SEO, the marketing tools and multilingual support.

Updated:

The functions in this chapter concern the public storefront as a sales instrument: how it looks, what content it carries, how it is found by search engines, what campaigns it supports and what languages it speaks. The description pattern is the one from chapter 03.

F18. Shaping the design of the site

Conditions. Permissions for Settings.

Preparatory actions. The logo (variants for light and dark backgrounds), the favicon and the print shop's brand colors.

Resources. Approximately 20–30 minutes; the changes are visible on the site immediately.

Sequence of actions.

  1. In Settings → Design → Site Style the single visual style of the store is chosen from the seven available ones (Classic, Minimal, Bordered, Compact, Mesh Grid, Spotlight, Liquid); it applies to the product pages, the cart, the sign-in screen and the widgets. A product may be an exception through its own design settings.
  2. In Brand & Colors the logo and the favicon are uploaded and the color scheme (primary, accent, backgrounds, text) and the default theme (light or dark) are defined, the theme being switchable by the visitor.
  3. In Layout the maximum width of the content, the minimum side spacing on a phone and the corner radius — inherited by cards, buttons, fields and widgets — are set.
  4. In Menu & Footer the style, the position (top, left or right as a sidebar), the sticky behaviour on scroll, the width and the alignment of the menu, the colors and the transparency effect, the weight and the size of the icons are chosen, then the equivalents for the footer.
  5. In Pages the style of the product page and the default values of the widgets (spacings, card style, hover effects) are set, each widget being able to override them.

Result. The site takes on the visual identity of the print shop, applied consistently and responsively, without code and without a designer; the colors become variables across the whole site.

Closing actions. Checking the site on a phone and checking the legibility of the colors. Details: Design.

F19. Managing the content of the site (CMS)

Conditions. Permissions for Website Content and Content.

Preparatory actions. The texts and the images of the pages, in the languages of the site.

Resources. Approximately 10–30 minutes for a page composed of existing blocks.

Sequence of actions.

  1. Widgets (Content → Widgets): the reusable blocks are created by type — the category catalog, recommended products, the calculator of a product, the print shop presentation, advantages, key figures, the steps of an online order, frequently asked questions, reviews, partner logos, link lists, news, image carousel and slider, mosaic gallery, banners and banner grids, image with text, contact form, countdown, the map of branches and pickup points, custom HTML code — each with a title, its own texts, the target device (all, desktop or mobile), the appearance (style, spacings, effects) and the SEO data; widgets can be cloned, activated and deactivated.
  2. Pages (Content → Website Content → Pages): every page has a name, an address of the form /page/<url>, a type (ordinary or legal — with a side table of contents and the update date), the SEO data and the block Constructor: a link to a global widget (a change to it is visible on all pages), a copy belonging to the page, or a new block; the order is set by dragging, with a live preview at several screen widths and translations per language; the system pages (the home page, the policies) cannot be deleted or hidden.
  3. Menu and Footer Menu: the Categories entry is filled in automatically from the catalog; custom entries have text per language, an icon, an internal or external address, submenus, drag-and-drop ordering and a visibility switch; the footer has columns of links, the copyright text, the company description, the social networks, the contact details and the newsletter subscription form.
  4. Blog (Website Content → Blog): articles with a title, their own address, a summary, an image with alternative text, content and a publication switch, displayed in the News section of the site and through the news widget.
  5. Images (Content → Images): the store's image library, organized in folders, with multiple upload and an editor at upload time (cropping, rotation, mirroring, compression, resizing); Files: downloadable documents published at their own addresses, with activation and replacement.
  6. Maintenance mode (Settings → General Settings): temporarily closes the public site with a chosen fallback page, while the admin panel remains accessible.

Result. The entire content of the site — the home page, the presentation and campaign pages, the policies, the menu, the footer, the blog, the documents — is administered by the print shop, in three languages, without the intervention of a programmer; the changes are published on save.

Closing actions. Regenerating the sitemap after adding or removing pages (F20). Details: Pages, Widgets, The menu and the footer, Blog, Images and files.

F20. Optimization for search engines (SEO)

Conditions. Permissions for SEO.

Preparatory actions. The old addresses to be redirected (when migrating from another site), the SEO texts of the main pages.

Resources. Approximately 15 minutes for the site-wide settings; the per-product texts are filled in together with the product sheet (F1).

Sequence of actions.

  1. At the level of a product, a category, a page and a widget the title, the description, the keywords, the canonical address, the H1 heading and the indexing markers (noindex, nofollow) are filled in, per language; blog articles generate their title and description by themselves.
  2. In Content → SEO → General Settings the site-wide options are chosen: the robots tags, the canonical for every page, the automatic daily update of the sitemap and the priority tag.
  3. In 301 Redirects the redirects from old addresses to new ones are added, with activation and suspension; in Meta Tags the title and the description are overridden for a particular address, taking priority over the fields of the page itself.
  4. In Sitemap the sitemap.xml file is regenerated, downloaded or uploaded, with statistics (addresses, sections, size) and a preview; in robots.txt the rules served at /robots.txt are edited.
  5. Site Crawl checks the pages listed in the sitemap and lists the broken links and images, pointing to the place where they are corrected.

Result. The site exposes to search engines clean addresses with a language prefix and language alternatives, meta data on every page, an up-to-date sitemap and robots file, correct redirects after renamings and a periodic report of broken links.

Closing actions. Submitting the sitemap address in the search engine's console. Details: SEO, The product sheet.

F21. Marketing: discounts, codes, banners, certificates, bonus

Conditions. Permissions for Marketing.

Preparatory actions. The commercial policy: what is discounted, by how much, for whom and over what period.

Resources. Approximately 5 minutes for one discount with codes; the mass generation of codes (up to 1,000 at a time) is instantaneous.

Sequence of actions.

  1. In Marketing → Discounts the discounts are created: the type (products, delivery or the order total), the value (percentage or amount), the minimum and maximum order amount, the discount cap, the period (or indefinite), the days of the week, the customers, the groups and the products targeted; every discount has promo codes — entered manually, generated randomly or in bulk, imported and exported — of the one-time (entire site), one-time (per customer) or unlimited type; the history retains every change.
  2. The referral programs are created in the same place: the discount for the referred customer and the reward for the one who refers them; the customers brought in appear in the referrer's card.
  3. In Marketing → Promotional Banner banners linked to a discount are published — a bar at the top of the page, a bar pinned at the bottom or a modal window with a delay — with a color, a text and a button with a link; the active banners appear on all public pages.
  4. In Marketing → Gift Certificate certificates are issued with a nominal value in MDL, a validity period and unique codes, each of them usable only once.
  5. Permanent discounts for categories of customers are granted through groups and personal discounts (F14); the bonus program (cashback) is configured in General Settings (F15); the newsletter subscription is collected from the footer, and the sending is carried out through the active e-mail integration.

Result. At checkout the customer enters the promo code or the certificate code; the platform checks, in order, the existence and the status of the code, the status of the discount, the period, the day of the week and the amount thresholds, calculates the discount, caps it and shows it on the Discount line; group discounts are applied without a code; visitors see the banners of the active campaigns.

Closing actions. Deactivating the banner when the campaign ends. Details: Discounts and promo codes, Promotional banners, Gift certificates.

F22. Multilingual support

Conditions. Permissions for Settings for the default language; the translations are made in each content screen.

Preparatory actions. The texts in the desired languages.

Resources. The translation is done gradually; missing texts automatically fall back to the default language.

Sequence of actions.

  1. In Settings → General Settings → Localization the default language of the site is chosen — served without a prefix in the address; the other languages receive a prefix (/ru/…, /en/…).
  2. The following are translated, each from its own screen: the pages and the widgets, the menu and the footer, the names and the texts of products and categories, the calculator labels, the public names of materials and operations, the order statuses, the production timeframes, the artwork check tiers, the SEO texts.
  3. Each user of the admin panel chooses the language of the panel in their own account, independently of the site; every order has its own language — the customer's or the one chosen by the manager — in which the e-mails are sent.

Result. The site, the e-mails to the customer, the customer account and the admin panel work in Romanian, Russian and English, with distinct addresses per language and alternatives declared to search engines; an untranslated text is displayed in the default language, never empty.

Closing actions. None required. Details: General Settings.
